Property Summary
Charming Grade II listed two bedroom eighteenth century stone built cottage with stunning views across the Box valley, nestled in the heart of popular Colerne, just 7.5 miles from the centre of Georgian Bath.
“The gorgeous views across roof tops and over the valley from this pretty chocolate box cottage really appealed to us when we first saw it. Since we have lived here we have never tired of these views, no matter what the season, whether it be glorious sunshine, snowing or bathed in Autumn mist. On a very clear day we can see as far as the White Horse at Westbury.”
“When we moved here the cottage had been in the same family for many years, we completely refurbished throughout, keeping the country cottage style with a modern twist. A handy front porch, perfect for leaving muddy boots and wellies after enjoying beautiful walks, leads into the welcoming sitting room which has a large original Bath stone fireplace and woodburning stove which is ideal for winter evenings. Next door to this is a shaker style kitchen with oak worktops, a limestone tiled floor with underfloor heating and Belfast sink overlooking the valley. There is a rangemaster cooker and built in fridge/freezer and slimline dishwasher. With room for a dining room table, the kitchen/diner is dual aspect with a stable door, with glass top half, which leads out to the garden. A useful utility room with plumbing for a washing machine and downstairs cloakroom complete the ground floor. Tongue and groove oak doors with black door furniture are throughout the house, as are traditional radiators.”
“A wooden staircase leads up to the first floor and two double bedrooms and the bathroom. Both bedrooms have those wonderful views across the valley and are flooded with light. The bathroom has cream travertine tiles, underfloor heating and a contemporary white suite with a shower over the bath and countertop sink.”
“Outside the pretty cottage front garden is mainly laid to lawn with two flower beds and a large shed with power and light which we currently use as a gym, but which has potential to be a home office. At the back there is a raised, easy to maintain decking area which is large enough for a corner sofa and a fire pit. It is a very sociable garden; it faces south so we are out there all the time sitting in the sun and and enjoying the incredible views. The rest of the garden is laid to lawn, and has woodshed built into the wall.”
“The village is so friendly, and our neighbours are lovely. There is a newsagent, village shop and post office, florists, hairdressers and two good pubs, ‘The Fox and Hounds’ and ‘The Six Bells’. The primary school has a ‘Good’ Ofsted report and is well regarded. There are good secondary school transport links from the village and a car share scheme. The village has a football and rugby club and a children's play park and friendly baby group. Lucknam Park, the Georgian country house hotel and spa, is 1.8 miles away for a special meal. We have a high energy dog and it is so brilliant to be able to go for long country walks over fields and through pretty wooded valleys. Chippenham railway station is 8.9 miles away with trains to London in 60 minutes and there is good access to M4. It is so lovely to live in such beautiful countryside in such a pretty, period cottage, but with excellent transport links.”
