Colerne

Property Summary

“What attracted me to Sunshine Cottage was the size and character of the house,” says the current owner of this large family home overlooking the Box Valley, “with sunny south facing views, parking spaces and an enviable location in the centre of the Wiltshire village of Colerne.”

“The house has wonderful features inside,” the owner continues “with a sitting room upstairs amongst the very old oak beams. There is also a working fireplace upstairs. I have uncovered two other Bath stone fireplaces in the two downstairs bedrooms. All rooms are very large in size with high ceilings and additional oak beam features. I have converted two outbuildings into another two bedrooms, a large utility room and an additional toilet and shower room, all done tastefully with a mixture of stone and wooden floors with underfloor heating. This could easily be adapted into a granny annexe or even rented out. The dining room is also large and the big dining table can easily sit 12 and more. With a ceiling that goes up to the beams, it is spacious and ideal for entertaining.”

“The character of this period property is enhanced by nice borders, hanging baskets, pot plants and gates that can be shut for privacy, all surrounded by beautiful countryside. I also have an allotment near-by where I grow my own vegetables.”

The village location of the house is superb. “The street the house is situated in is very quiet with no through traffic and all the neighbours are very friendly and there is a good community feel,” says the owner. “All the village amenities are within walking distance, including two pubs serving excellent food, a local shop, newsagent, hairdresser, cosy cafe, lovely church, Saturday market, and a Post Office. The village as a whole is very friendly and welcoming. It has numerous events throughout the year and an active church community. My kids went to the local playgroup and then to the village primary school, both of which are excellent. The village also has a football and rugby club with a large mini section for kids playing both sports.”

“The house is located very near to a footpath and therefore offers instant access to the beautiful landscape, overlooking the Box Valley, Bath and Colerne,” the owner continues. “There are numerous footpaths to explore and of course Colerne is only just over 7 miles away from the world heritage city of Bath. There are good road links with the M4 nearby, as well as train stations at Bath or Chippenham with direct links to London. However, the hilltop village is very quiet with no through traffic and is a very sought after village to live in. It is also close to other villages such as Castle Combe, Ford, Marshfield and Ditteridge, all with great pubs and their own individual features.”

“I have moved four times within the village spending 30 years here, buying larger houses as my family grew and changed… so that must say something for the area! I am hoping to stay in the village when I move, as I would definitely miss the community if I were to move away.”
