Property Summary

A four bedroom double fronted 1920s house with double height atrium, galleried landing, four reception rooms, master en suite and with balcony, family bathroom, double garage and front and rear gardens, and country views. Located in desirable hamlet of Ashley, just 5.4 miles from the heart of Georgian Bath.

The vendor says; “We drove past this house for many years and always thought it was a handsome house. When it came up for sale we bought it because there was a lovely feel to it, even though it was a project. We put in a new kitchen with Egyptian stone floor and underfloor heating and a traditional cream kitchen with solid wooden doors. There are glass units, a big range cooker, lighting in and under the cupboards and an InSinkErator waste disposal unit. We also have a larder which has a marble area ideal for rolling out pastry. There is a garden room off the kitchen as well with underfloor heating which is lovely for sitting in and looking out over the garden.”

“My favourite room is the sitting room which we have recently redecorated in soft greys; it is a very relaxing room. We replaced the tiled fireplace with a Victorian style fireplace and coal effect gas fire, so it is very cosy in winter too. The dining room now has the picture rails reinstated and some antique brass wall lights which give a lovely soft glow in the evening with their black shades against the sage green walls. The table seats ten so it has been the scene of many family gatherings over the years. I also make curtains, so it doubles as a very spacious work room.”

“The hall is a very grand double height room. There used to be a small room above it which was not used for anything, so we took it out. The stairs go straight up to a galleried area leading to the front bedrooms. The eight foot Christmas tree glittering with lights in the hall with the sparkling chandelier really look stunning at Christmas.”
“We stripped the fireplaces in the front bedrooms back to their original iron and they provide lovely features. The master bedroom opens out onto a balcony. It has room for a table and two chairs and is a lovely spot for morning coffee while overlooking the hills towards Kingsdown. There are lights on the balcony too.”

“We are set well back from the road and have parking for five to six cars, and a double garage which is about 9’ high. It has a loft which is boarded over as well as lights and power. We have gardens at the front and a summerhouse, a pond and waterfall, and a shed for the lawnmower and garden tools in the gardens at the back of the house.”

“In Ashley there are lovely neighbours and Box is only 0.7 miles away. There is an excellent primary school, doctor’s surgery, chemist, local shop, post office, hairdressers, butchers and the Northey Arms and Queen’s Head as well as a very popular Indian restaurant. At the top of the hill is the Rudloe Arms, a Marco Pierre White hotel and restaurant. Box has the village sports pavilion for bowls, cricket, football and tennis and in Selwyn Hall there are choral singing, and flower arranging groups. The Birdhouse café is nice to walk down to for tea and cake. Box has its own music festival, Box Revels and Box Rocks.”

“It is 7.8 miles to Chippenham station from here, and a journey of 80 minutes to London Paddington. Georgian Bath, with all it has to offer from shops to top schools, is only 5.4 miles away.”
