Property Summary
A four bedroom stone built home with views over fields towards Box, gardens, double garage, off road parking for 4/5 vehicles on the edge of the thriving village of Colerne, 7.5 miles from the centre of Georgian Bath.
The vendors say: “The property was originally a rendered bungalow, which we have converted into a four bedroom house. The stunning views over the fields, the spaciousness, and the good links to Colerne, Bath and Chippenham make this attractive. Originally built in 1950’s the house was called ‘Electra’ as it was one of the first houses with underfloor electric heating then. There is a gravel path leading up to the house, passing the driveway, main garden, garage/workshop. A spacious entrance hall opens onto the sitting room which has stunning country views across the valley over towards Box. On a clear day you can see Westbury in the distance and Salisbury Plain. There are sliding doors leading out to the back garden. A fireplace in this room makes a focal point, although it is not a working fireplace. The kitchen, which looks out over the front garden has oak fronted units. It would be possible to make the kitchen and sitting room one large room as there is only a partition wall between them. The kitchen opens onto a long utility room which runs across the width of the house and has space for washing machine, freezer, sink, kitchen units and furniture to sit and enjoy the views over the valley. A dining room with those views and a study with floor to ceiling bay window looking out onto the front garden complete the ground floor.”
“Upstairs there is a wide open landing. This was originally in the plans a fifth bedroom – too many for us, but this could be instated if desired, subject to relevant consents. There are three large double bedrooms overlooking the valley at the back, and a slightly smaller L shaped double at the front. There is a family bathroom. In the original plans each bedroom had an en suite bedroom, so this would be possible to do if required.”
“The main garden is at the front, enclosed by tall hedges, so it is very private. There is a koi carp pond with a good stock of large fish, and an ornamental pond. The garden has a big holly tree, some evergreen trees, large shrubs, and some fine hydrangeas moving in tone from white, to pink to red. There is a double garage built from natural local stone in the same style as the house which has fully insulated cavity walls and double glazed windows and power, so it could be converted to an office or annex. At the side of the house is a greenhouse and there is a paved path all the way round the house with a small garden at the back with lawn and a flower bed and the home to our large tortoise family!”
“This has been an incredibly quiet, pleasant area in which to live. There are many wonderful walks from our front door, with footpaths going from Slaughterford to Biddestone. Colerne is 1.2 miles away, a very friendly village. There are two pubs serving good food, a local shop, newsagent, hairdresser, cosy cafe, lovely church, Saturday market, and a Post Office. There is a local playgroup and a village primary school, rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. The village also has a very active football and rugby club. Lucknam Park Hotel and Spa is 0.6 miles away. Corsham, a charming market town is 6.6 miles away, picturesque Castle Combe is 3.9 miles away. It is 8 miles to Chippenham railway station, with fast trains to London and M4 is easily accessible. We have been extremely fortunate to live in such a perfect location in this house with incredible views.”
