Property Summary
A pretty double fronted four bedroom, two bathroom, period cottage, built circa 1800, full of period features and peacefully located in the desirable village of Corston on the west side of Bath.
“Our family have lived in Corston for over 20 years, and we really love being part of this friendly, welcoming community. We believe our house is made up of two of the five original buildings that were originally Shorts Cottages, with the kitchen being the oldest part of the house. In a very tucked away location, with a lovely old stone wall running along one side of the garden, it is a charming, quintessentially English house. When you walk through the garden gate you are met with borders filled with cottage garden flowers and a path leads you to the front door that is framed by wisteria. The front door opens into the sitting room with views through the house to the back garden, giving a real sense of being connected to the outside. The sitting room is the whole width of the house with two windows looking onto the south facing front garden. There is a lovely inglenook fireplace made of stone where you’ll find a Charnwood multi fuel burner and plenty of space to store logs on built in shelving in one of the alcoves. Both alcoves have a cupboard below, one housing the gas and electric meters and providing useful storage. The oak flooring and an additional cast iron fireplace in the living room, add to the cosy atmosphere of this room. The kitchen has plenty of storage with lovely thick oak worktops, giving a large amount of prep space and has hidden integrated appliances. The painted wooden floorboards run into the dining room, filled with natural light from a wall of windows and beautiful French doors. The doors open onto a secluded Italianate courtyard garden with raised flower beds filled with herbs and fruit trees. With an old French daybed and the doors open to the courtyard, it’s a peaceful spot to read or enjoy a coffee. We use our dining room through all seasons and it provides a lovely social space when entertaining.”
“Upstairs there is a large landing, two double bedrooms and a bathroom with a cast iron roll top bath. We use one of the bedrooms as a dressing room/office and both have beautiful Victorian fireplaces and views from deep window sills of the front garden, providing a lovely space to sit. Up again on the next floor are two more double bedrooms and a shower room – ideal as children’s rooms, or as a separate guest floor. The stunning views from the bedrooms are over rooftops to Newton St Loe and Duchy Land.”
“The front garden has a circular lawn in the middle surrounded with cottage garden planting and an old stone footpath, that leads to our “quiet corner” and a raised area of decking. We spend a lot of time on the quiet corner sofa as it’s both sheltered and secluded, making it the perfect space to sit and chat around a fire pit in the evening, or enjoying a meal at the table on the decking. The back garden also has a wooden garden shed and there is a storeroom attached to the house. We use the lay-by at the front for parking which has space for at least six cars. There is a garden path to our house, the front part of which is shared by our neighbours in Mayfall Cottage. There are so many beautiful country walks here. We often walk through surrounding fields to the village of Newton St Loe and stop at their farm shop and lovely café. There are also walks along the river either to Saltford or towards the Boathouse and Bath. A short drive away (4.5 miles) is our favourite restaurant, The Pig, offering a locally sourced menu, amazing wine list and beautiful grounds to wander through. Bath Spa Railway station is 4.1 miles away and Bristol Temple Meads is 9.0 miles away.”
