Property Summary

A superb detached five bedroom country house with a two bedroom annexe and triple garage. Comprises entrance hall, three reception rooms, kitchen breakfast room, cloakroom, utility room, two bathrooms, shower room, gardens and parking.

Keepers Gate is an extremely attractive period barn conversion that enjoys a truly enviable location within the beautiful Wiltshire countryside. “My primary reason for moving here was because I have family in the area,” says Susie, “but I must say it took some time to find the perfect home. Keepers Gate was only the second property I looked at, and although I viewed a great many more it always remained at the back of my mind. It sits in this glorious location within what were once the grounds belonging to the nearby country estate, so it’s both peaceful and picturesque; the house is built of the palest stone so extremely pretty and the garden is just stunning. For me it ticked all the boxes.”

“The property was converted at some point in the 1980s, and it was done very well. The layout works beautifully and it was fitted out by the previous owners to a very high standard, so when I came here it was just a case of putting my stamp on the décor and making sure everything was in a really good state of repair.”

“What I love about the house is that it has such a superb layout. The majority of the main living areas flow from the wonderfully spacious reception hall, and on one side of the property there is a really lovely drawing room and on the opposite side, just through the lovely big kitchen/diner, is another sitting room, so it works brilliantly when the family are here. The adults have a space to sit quietly and chat, and the children have space to watch TV or play games; it’s ideal.”

“The garden is a feature of the property that proved to be a big attraction,” continues Susie. “As you drive in the initial view is of the really pretty courtyard, then you walk through an arch into the main area, which is quite hidden away, so wonderfully secluded. It had been beautifully landscaped before I moved here, so it’s very well established – no matter what the time of year there’s always something pretty to look at – so it’s just a case of mowing the lawn and doing a little bit of weeding; it’s very easy to maintain.”

“The drawing room is a beautiful part of the house,” says Susie. “It’s light and bright and it has French doors that lead straight out onto the terrace, so it has a lovely connection with the garden.”

“With ancient woodland to the back and open farmland to the front, the immediate surroundings feel far removed from everything and everyone,” says Susie, “and yet within around fifteen minutes I can be right in the centre of Bath. For me the location has been ideal.”

“The annex is completely self contained and sits just across from the main house,” says Susie. “It has two bedrooms, a shower room, a sitting room/diner and a lovely little kitchen. I currently use it as a holiday let, but it would also provide perfect accommodation for an elderly relative.”

“This is such a beautiful home, but I feel that the time has come to downsize,” says Susie. “I’ll miss the house and the stunning garden, but I hope to stay in the area as in my mind it couldn’t be more perfect.”
