Property Summary
Quintessential three bedroom stone built period house with stunning views over the Box valley in the sought after village of Colerne, about 5 miles west of the town of Corsham and 7.3 miles northeast of the city of Bath.
The vendor says: “The house is nearly 400 years old and was built in 1622. It’s full of period features and has a warm and welcoming feel. There are exposed wooden beams, wooden flooring, a spilt level stable door, and an original Jacobean stone fireplace in the dining area. The sitting room has a lovely inglenook fireplace with a wood-burning stove which makes it extra cozy in the winter. I really love the new open plan kitchen/dining room, which is great for entertaining. Although it is an old cottage there is a wonderful feeling of space and light. I never get tired or complacent with opening the curtains each morning to the breath-taking views across the Bybrook Valley, which reach as far as the eye can see to the White Horse at Westbury."
“Upstairs there are two double bedrooms and a single room, and again all the rooms are bright, and all three have lovely views from the sash windows which are deep-set in the thick walls, each with their own nooks, perfect for reading. These thick walls mean that in summer the house is cool and in winter it is warm. The family bathroom is panelled and has a beautiful roll top bath as well as a separate shower.”
“There is a door from the dining area that leads outside on to the terrace which is great for al-fresco dining and admiring the view. There is a lawn here with borders of flowers and then an arch leading to the bigger of the two gardens. This again is currently laid to lawn for easy maintenance, and with two summer houses; one of which is currently used to entertain and the other as a mini gym. There is also a greenhouse and garden shed, so plenty of storage."
"This cottage has been well-loved both by me and the previous occupants. I have always felt safe here and blessed to have a real country retreat to come home to. Tutton Hill is a great environment having the best of both worlds; a real sense of tranquillity and privacy, but also a lovely communal feel with friendly neighbours of all ages in the surrounding cottages."
"The village of Colerne is very vibrant. There are two good pubs, ‘The Fox and Hounds’ and ‘The Six Bells’. There is an active village community hall with numerous weekly events, a newsagent, village shop, florists, and hairdressers. The primary school has a ‘Good’ Ofsted report and is well regarded. There are good secondary school transport links from the village and a car share scheme. The village has a football and rugby club and a children's play park and friendly baby group. Lucknam Park, the Georgian country house hotel and spa, is about a mile away and great for popping in for a morning coffee or special meal. There are amazing country walks around the whole valley, which is one of the reasons I moved here. There is a good walk down the hill cutting back to Ford, ending up in the White Hart there, which serves excellent food. You can also walk down to Box and as far as Bradford-on-Avon following the river. The cycling round here is brilliant too.”
"I feel very privileged to have lived here in this lovely house so full of character, in such a superb location, in the village; but with easy access to Bath and the nearby towns of Corsham and Bradford-on Avon. Bristol is just 39 minutes away with short cuts across country to the motorway. What I have savoured most is the cottage itself, being set in such stunningly beautiful countryside, with all its walks and outdoor opportunities right here on the doorstep.”
